Cultured diamonds are real diamonds. Thomas Florencio, owner of Golcondia boutique in Shangri-La Plaza Mall East Wing, spends a lot of his time explaining to at least 10 customers each day that cultured diamonds are as authentic as the ones found underground. “It can sometimes be frustrating,” says Florencio. Cultured Diamond Store to Open in the Philippines

A new store is opening up in Manila that will exclusively sell lab-grown diamonds. Thomas Florencio, a third-generation jeweler who owns a two-store chain in the Philippines called T. Florencio Jewelry, will in November change the name of one those stores to Golcondia Cultured Diamonds and devote his store to that product. When his shop opens, it will likely be the only brick-and-mortar retailer solely devoted to lab-grown diamonds. In 2011, D.NEA opened a store in Greenville, S.C., but it has since closed.

Firm selling cultured diamonds

Jeweller Golcondia Corp. has teamed up with Singapore-based PDC Grown Diamond in an exclusive distributorship contract to market cultured diamonds in the Philippines. PDC is the world’s biggest source of gem-quality diamonds in the world. “We have learned to make ‘real diamonds’ with the same chemical, optical and physical properties as mined diamonds,” Golcondia president Tommy Florencio told reporters in an interview over the weekend. Golcondia will soon open the world’s first man-made diamond showroom at the 2nd level of Shangri-La Plaza East Wing, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
