Golcondia was featured on ANC Cityscape as the first store in the world to sell only cultured diamonds and is so named as a play on words on the famous Golconda Diamond mine from which the highest quality of diamonds were mined.
JEWELRY has long sparkled among the Florencios as their core family business. Teresa Mia Florencio, a third generation jeweler of the clan today is the president of the Guild of Philippine Jewelers Inc. (GPJI) and the Confederation of the Guild of Philippine Jewelers Inc. (CPJI).
“I love diamonds and wearing fine jewelry. I also love talking about it, but my brother Tomy is the real jewel expert while another brother Rafael is the businessman,” related Mia in an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times Magazine.
Cultured diamonds are real
diamonds. Thomas Florencio, owner
of Golcondia boutique in Shangri-La
Plaza Mall East Wing, spends a lot of his
time explaining to at least 10 customers
each day that cultured diamonds
are as authentic as the ones found
underground. “It can sometimes be
frustrating,” says Florencio.
A third generation jeweler, Florencio
says that cultured diamonds contain
the same chemical, optical, and physical
properties similar to diamonds mined
from the earth.
Taking its name from the region in India, fabled for its most perfect diamonds, Golcondia fulfulls the promist of producing only the most flawless pieces. The first showroom of its kind in the country, Golcondia has perfected the science of diamond making and has elevated the art of design with its handcrafted "jewels of everlasting love."
“Man has finally learned how to make REAL diamonds at a commercially viable level. Cultured Diamonds have the same chemical, optical, and physical properties as mined diamonds but priced 30% less for colorless, 50% less for fancy yellow, and 90% less for fancy pink.”, says Tomy Florencio, president of GOLCONDIA, a Manila-based company that prides itself of being the first to introduce the grown diamonds in the local market by opening a showroom located at the upscale Shangri-La Plaza East Wing.
A new store is opening up in Manila that will exclusively sell lab-grown diamonds.
Thomas Florencio, a third-generation jeweler who owns a two-store chain in the Philippines called T. Florencio Jewelry, will in November change the name of one those stores to Golcondia Cultured Diamonds and devote his store to that product.
When his shop opens, it will likely be the only brick-and-mortar retailer solely devoted to lab-grown diamonds. In 2011, D.NEA opened a store in Greenville, S.C., but it has since closed.
Jeweller Golcondia Corp. has teamed up with Singapore-based PDC Grown Diamond in an exclusive distributorship contract to market cultured diamonds in the Philippines.
PDC is the world’s biggest source of gem-quality diamonds in the world.
“We have learned to make ‘real diamonds’ with the same chemical, optical and physical properties as mined diamonds,” Golcondia president Tommy Florencio told reporters in an interview over the weekend.
Golcondia will soon open the world’s first man-made diamond showroom at the 2nd level of Shangri-La Plaza East Wing, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
